3.2 Fits Paleoecological Record For this criterion, each model is evaluated according to how well it fits the currently known paleoecological record of the earliest bipedal hominids.

Models set in wooded habitats, the currently growing consensus on hominin evolution, were reted best, ones based on savnnah, montane or coastal habitats, worst.
